James M. Kerins

is an Associate with the firm and is admitted to practice law in the State of New York, Eastern District of New York, the Southern District of New York and the State of Florida.

Mr. Kerins received his J.D. from St. John's School of Law in 2017. As a law student, he was the recipient of the St. John’s Court of Appeals Fellowship and interned as a Law Clerk for the Hon. Stephen A. Bucaria of Nassau County Supreme Court, Commercial Division. Mr. Kerins was also an active member and board member of the St. John’s University Moot Court Honor Society.

Mr. Kerins is a member of the New York State, Nassau County, and Queen’s Bar Associations and is also active in the NYSBA and NCBA Trusts and Estates Sections.

Mr. Kerins focuses on elder law and Medicaid planning and also specializes in estate litigation matters such as probate contests, discovery proceedings, accounting proceedings, kinship proceedings and other miscellaneous litigation related to trusts and estates. He has also been appointed as guardian ad litem, by various Surrogates in several counties to represent minors, unknown heirs and incapacitated individuals.

Mr. Kerins handles Medicaid applications, drafts a variety of estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, health care proxies, powers of attorney and living wills and disposition of remains. He also advises clients on the issues that may arise from administering an estate in addition to their potential tax consequences.

Mr. Kerins is sensitive to the needs of each individual client. He provides them with the time and attention and the tools to understand how to best navigate their matter within the Surrogate’s Court.
